Once we scoutizzato a series of games and training becomes interesting to understand how to organize the collected numbers and analysis study.
It is therefore necessary to establish evaluation indices that allow us to understand what our team does (or a single athlete) excels or needs to improve.
The parameters commonly used for this purpose are the positivity and l’efficiency in a certain fundamental:
- the positivity expresses how well a certain playing technique is performed: it is a value “%” and is given by the number of shots “well executed” divided by the total number of hits
- l’efficiency expresses to what extent a game technique affects the score, therefore on the final result of a match: it is a value “%” given by the number of shots that gave the team a point minus the number of shots that gave the opponents a point divided by the total shots
A practical example to clarify things: its 10 attacks one of our athletes ago 4 points, 3 attacks outside and suffers 2 walled up. The athlete's positivity will be given by the number of points divided by the total number of shots 40%; the efficiency of the same athlete will instead be given by 4 minus points 3 fewer direct errors 2 walled up, divided by the total attacks, Therefore -10%. It is no coincidence that the attack was chosen to compare these two parameters; for this fundamental reason both are in fact analysed.
If we consider the reception we cannot score direct points with this gesture, but possibly only errors. For this reason we do not consider the efficiency of this fundamental but above all we talk about positivity.
Another interesting index is given by “danni” (caused or suffered) of a certain fundamental. In the service, for example, efficiency and positivity are certainly very important parameters, but we also consider a well-executed serve to be one that puts the opposing team in difficulty, making the construction of the attack a given (shots “+”) or by preventing it at all (shots “/”). Similarly, for reception, the damages suffered will take into account the aces suffered (shots “=”), of receptions that do not allow attack (“/”) and receptions that only allow an obvious attack (shots “-“)
For other game techniques, another evaluation index is used which takes into account how many times a game technique is performed. For example, we take into account how many defenses per set are performed by a player, or how many block points per set another athlete concludes. Especially for the fundamentals of defense for high level men's teams in fact, Rarely is the fundamental itself given a grade, but it only takes into account whether a player makes a defensive intervention playable for his team or not.
This was a quick rundown of the most common evaluation metrics used; nothing prevents each coach from inventing others that, for your team, they will highlight salient characteristics of gaming skills.
In future articles we will see how the above can be of great use for choosing training and the objectives of individual exercises
